Mario Scheichenbauer, Yeti Rocking Chair for Elam – Italy, 1960s
$33.16
$42.78
Description Designed by Mario Scheichenbauer in the late 1960s, the Yeti Chair is an example of Italian experimental seating from the period. The chair combines a sculptural wooden structure with a fully upholstered, long‑haired surface, reflecting the era’s interest in expressive materials and unconventional forms. This example has been reupholstered in natural, high quality New Zealand sheepskin in a polar bear white/yellow. The voluminous sheepskin is ultra-soft to the touch and closely follows the original concept of the design, which was historically produced using long pile animal hides. (Source: Gramigna, Giuliana, Repertorio del Design Italiano 1950‑2000, Turin, 2003, p. 143). The rocking chair offers an inviting and relaxed seating position. Its enveloping form provides a high level of comfort, encouraging prolonged use. The Yeti Chair is documented in design literature and is held in the permanent collection of the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York.
