Description The Garriris Chair, designed by Javier Mariscal in 1987, is a piece of collectible furniture that reflects the designer’s transition from comic illustration to industrial design. The chair’s structure is made from chromed square steel tubular legs with polished aluminum ‘shoes’ referencing the cartoon feet of “Los Garriris” character Julian the dog. The seat and backrest are made of plywood and upholstered in leather. The most distinctive feature is the ‘mouse ears’ on the backrest, a nod to both Mariscal’s cartoonish style and popular culture. The Garriris Chair demonstrates Mariscal’s approach to blending playful aesthetics with functional design, making it a notable example of 1980s design culture.
